President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, who lost their lives during a coordinated terrorist attack on their base in Benisheikh, Borno State.

The Defence Headquarters confirmed that the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026, resulting in the tragic loss of gallant troops who were defending their position against insurgents.

In a statement, the President extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the government and people of Borno State, describing the incident as a painful sacrifice in the nation’s ongoing fight against terrorism.

President Tinubu commended the courage and professionalism of the troops, noting that they fought valiantly to repel the attackers and prevent the overrun of nearby communities. He described their sacrifice as heroic and unforgettable.

He also urged the military leadership and frontline troops not to be discouraged by the incident, but to remain resolute in their efforts to defeat terrorism across the country.

According to him, ongoing military operations have continued to record successes, including the neutralisation of insurgent fighters and commanders, stressing that the attack was a sign of desperation from weakened terrorist elements.

The President assured the Armed Forces of continued government support in terms of equipment, logistics, and welfare, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security.

He further called on Nigerians and the media to support the military by avoiding narratives that undermine their efforts, describing the fallen soldiers as national heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of the country.
