President Tinubu Urges Enhanced Efforts for Sustainable Peace and Security (Photos)
In a resolute address at the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, emphasised the imperative for the Armed Forces to intensify their commitment to sustainable peace, security, and national development.

The conference, held under the theme “Personnel Motivation for Effective Operational Performance in a Joint Environment,” commenced on Monday, 11 December 2023, at the Command Guest House in Maiduguri, Borno State.
President Tinubu acknowledged the crucial role of the Nigerian Army (NA) in restoring peace and its impartial conduct during recent elections. “I commend you for your heroic efforts against insurgency and terrorism, and will like to urge you to continue with dedication to tackling security challenges,” the President said.
Emphasising the military’s pivotal role in national security, President Tinubu called on the NA to confront security threats head-on.
Highlighting the significance of the conference as a tradition symbolising the NA’s unwavering commitment to national security, the President urged the military to draw lessons from past operations to enhance future endeavours.
The President reassured that his administration’s proactive measures and determination to address security concerns would contribute to shaping a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
He acknowledged the improved capacity of the Armed Forces with the procurement of new platforms and commended the Service Chiefs for enhanced synergy.
Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, lauded the NA’s efforts and President Tinubu’s presence at the conference, highlighting the state’s strategic importance in the fight against insurgents.
The Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, described the conference as a platform to assess the NA’s preparedness and operational readiness, encouraging continued commitment to safeguarding the nation.
The COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, underscored the conference’s significance, focusing on policies, achievements, challenges, and future strategies for enhanced national security. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for approving the payment of backlog of group life assurance claims for families of deceased personnel.
After the opening ceremony, President Tinubu inspected ongoing projects and performed foundation laying for the construction of Headquarters 7 Division in Maimalari Cantonment. The President also addressed the troops of Joint Task North East, OPERATION HADIN KAI.
A conference lecture titled “Whole of Society Approach and Military Operations in Nigeria” was delivered by former COAS Lieutenant General Onyeabo Azuibuike Ihejirika (Rtd).
