Rainy Season: Don’t dump refuse into the drains, canals, EHOAN warns Osun residents

The Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN), Osun State Chapter has warned inhabitants of the state to desist from the act of dumping their refuse indiscriminately into the drains and canals especially as heavy rainy season is drawing nearer.

According to the EHOAN’s state President, Sanitarian Ola Sunday Olufemi and Secretary, Sanitarian Akinola Raphael Olutayo in a Press Statement issued and made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Tuesday, 3rd Sept, 2024, Osun State could witness flood-free rainy season, if the citizens of the state do not dump wastes indiscriminately and make their environment clean every time.

The EHOAN noted that the practice of dumping waste and refuse into the streams is capable of causing heavy flooding on roads and other surroundings especially when the rainy season fully sets in.

“The act is a great sabotage to the good and lofty efforts of government towards providing motorable roads and flood-free environment for the people of the state.

“It is also a bad habit to dump materials, such as sand, stones, etc by the gutters as this can sabotage the good intention of government towards checking flooding on the roads, which impedes free vehicular movement.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke’s led administration is committed to the well-being of its entire citizenry and has zero tolerance for any negative practices that will endanger the lives of the people of the state through indiscriminate dumping of refuse and other poor attitudes to waste management by some people.

“Please be warned and assist the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, EHOAN, Osun State Chapter in realising a ‘Cleaner Osun State’, the statement concluded.
