Regional Cooperation Key to Defeating Terrorism, Insurgency — Defence Minister
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), have reaffirmed that terrorism, insurgency, and transnational threats can only be effectively confronted through regional cooperation, intelligence fusion, synergy, and sustained commitment among states.
The Nigerian delegation joined Defence Ministers and senior military chiefs from Chad, Cameroon, Benin, and Nigeria at the meeting of the Multinational Joint Task Force held in N’Djamena under the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.
The meeting reviewed ongoing military operations across the Lake Chad Basin and explored stronger strategies aimed at enhancing regional peace, security, and stability.
Speaking during the engagement, Musa emphasized that the evolving nature of terrorism and other cross-border threats requires sustained collaboration and coordinated action among affected countries.
He reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to collective security efforts and the restoration of lasting peace across the region.
The Multinational Joint Task Force continues to play a major role in coordinating regional military operations against insurgent groups and transnational criminal networks operating around the Lake Chad Basin.
