Remi Tinubu Defends Coastal Highway Project, Says Improved Infrastructure Will Boost Connectivity
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has defended the Federal Government’s ongoing Coastal Highway project, describing it as a strategic investment aimed at improving transportation and connectivity across the country.
Speaking on the importance of infrastructure development, the First Lady noted that transportation costs remain high in many parts of the world, including advanced economies.
“Everywhere in the world, even in America, flights are expensive. This is the reason President Tinubu is doing the Coastal Road,” she said.
According to her, the project is designed to provide alternative transport options, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and support economic growth by improving access between key regions of the country.
The Coastal Highway is one of the flagship infrastructure projects of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is expected to enhance regional integration, promote trade, and stimulate investment along the corridor.
Government officials have repeatedly argued that improved road infrastructure will reduce travel challenges, strengthen economic activities, and contribute to long-term national development.
The project has attracted significant public attention since its launch, with supporters describing it as a transformative initiative, while critics have questioned aspects of its cost and implementation. However, the Federal Government maintains that the highway is a critical component of its broader infrastructure and economic development agenda.
