The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is translating the Renewed Hope Agenda into tangible projects, employment opportunities, innovation and industrial development across Nigeria.
The Minister stated this on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, at the headquarters of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) in Abuja, during the Presidential Media Team’s tour of the agency.
Idris explained that the National Renewed Hope Media Tour was designed to provide Nigerians with firsthand information on government projects and programmes while strengthening transparency and accountability in public administration.
“We want Nigerians to see for themselves how government policies are being translated into tangible projects, jobs, innovation and opportunities,” the Minister said.
He noted that direct engagement between government institutions and citizens would strengthen transparency, while allowing the public to independently assess and verify the progress of government initiatives.
NASENI Driving Nigeria’s Industrial Transformation
The Minister described NASENI as a strategic institution at the centre of Nigeria’s industrial transformation through science, engineering and technology.
According to him, the agency’s interventions cover critical areas including local manufacturing, renewable energy, agricultural mechanisation, digital technology and skills development.
He said the Tinubu administration’s vision was to build a productive and self-reliant economy driven by innovation, local value addition and industrial competitiveness.
“Our vision is clear: to move Nigeria from being primarily a consumer nation to becoming a nation of producers, innovators and exporters,” Idris stated.
He added that industrialisation, technology development and youth empowerment remain central to the administration’s economic transformation agenda, creating opportunities for investment, enterprise development and sustainable employment.
The Minister commended NASENI’s management and workforce for advancing indigenous engineering and technological solutions capable of strengthening Nigeria’s productive capacity and reducing dependence on imported products.
He also praised members of the Presidential Media Team for supporting the Federal Government’s commitment to openness by providing Nigerians with factual, balanced and firsthand reports on the implementation of major government programmes.
Idris subsequently declared the Presidential Media Team’s tour of NASENI officially open.
NASENI Establishes Over 20 Factories
Earlier, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the agency was implementing a practical industrialisation strategy focused on local manufacturing, technology transfer, healthcare innovation and the commercialisation of research.
Halilu disclosed that NASENI’s interventions currently span eight key industrial sectors, with projects distributed across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory.
He said the agency’s strategy is to develop products suited to the Nigerian market, manufacture and assemble them locally, progressively increase local content and establish industries capable of competing in the global marketplace.
“That is how we have been able to establish more than 20 factories within a short period,” Halilu said.
The tour provided members of the Presidential Media Team with an opportunity to inspect NASENI’s facilities and gain firsthand knowledge of the agency’s ongoing technological and industrial initiatives.
Among those present were the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga; Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Chief Sunday Dare; Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, and other senior government officials and media professionals.
The engagement underscored the Federal Government’s emphasis on innovation, local production, technology transfer and industrial capacity development as key drivers of Nigeria’s economic transformation under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
