Rivers State Attorney General, Prof. Zacheaus Adangor, Resigns
In a surprising development, the Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacheaus Adangor, has officially resigned from his position.
The announcement of his resignation came through a letter dated November 14, 2023, addressed to Governor Sim Fubara.
In the letter, Adangor explicitly stated that his decision to step down from the role was rooted in personal principles.
The communication read, “I hereby give Your Excellency Notice of my resignation as the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Rivers State with effect from the date of this letter. For the avoidance of doubt, my resignation from the said office is based on personal principles. I wish to thank Your Excellency for the opportunity and privilege granted me to serve in your administration as a member of the cabinet. My Family and I are indebted to Your Excellency in gratitude.”
It is noteworthy that Adangor was originally appointed to the cabinet during the tenure of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and subsequently re-appointed by Governor Fubara.
During the initial stages of the crisis in the state, there were speculations circulating that the former Attorney General, perceived as an ally of the now Minister of FCT, had been dismissed by the governor.
However, these rumours were promptly refuted by the state government, underscoring the clarity surrounding Adangor’s departure and the personal nature of his decision.
