The “K9-X” units, purchased for approximately 2.5 million pesos (around $145,000), are equipped with cameras, night-vision, and rugged bodies capable of climbing stairs and navigating rough terrain. They can enter tight or dangerous spaces, transmit live video feeds to officers, and even issue voice commands to suspects, reducing the need for human officers to face potential danger.

Mexico, co-hosting the tournament with the United States and Canada, expects the robots to enhance security operations and situational awareness during one of the world’s largest sporting events. Guadalupe officials highlighted that using robotic scouts first allows police to respond more safely and effectively while maintaining a clear overview of potential threats.

This deployment marks a growing trend in integrating robotics into public safety measures, particularly for large-scale events with heightened security needs.
