Romania is pushing forward with plans to develop an ambitious $1 billion Dracula-themed entertainment park on the outskirts of Bucharest, with a projected opening date around 2027. The proposed attraction, located just minutes from the city centre and the international airport, is expected to become one of Eastern Europe’s largest tourism projects.

Tentatively called Dracula Land, the park is designed as a large-scale resort that will merge entertainment, storytelling and Romania’s centuries-old association with the Dracula legend and vampire folklore. Developers say the project aims to attract millions of international visitors by transforming the country’s gothic myths into an immersive modern experience.

Plans for the park include six themed zones inspired by legendary settings and literary worlds. These are expected to feature areas such as Transylvania, Dracula’s Castle, Victorian London, and New Orleans, each recreating dark, atmospheric environments linked to vampire mythology, classic literature and European folklore.

The project is also expected to include hotels, entertainment venues, live shows and interactive attractions, positioning it as a full-scale destination rather than a single amusement park. Tourism experts believe its proximity to Bucharest could significantly boost visitor numbers and extend stays in the country.

If completed as envisioned, Dracula Land would firmly place Romania at the centre of the growing global “dark tourism” market, where history, legend and mystery are used to drive travel interest. Supporters say the project has the potential to redefine Romania’s tourism profile, turning its most famous legend into a major international cultural and economic asset.
