Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will be honoured with the esteemed Honorary Fellow of Theatre Arts award by the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) during its 2024 National Delegates Convention.
The event, set to take place from December 3 to 7 in Lagos, will also see Sanwo-Olu acting as Chief Host.
According to the press statement made available to our correspondent, NANTAP’s Honorary Fellowship is a rare recognition reserved for individuals who have made lasting contributions to Nigeria’s arts and cultural landscape.
Sanwo-Olu is being celebrated for his steadfast support of the creative industry, including his involvement in the infrastructural development of the National Theatre and various cultural spaces in Lagos, along with his broader efforts to enhance artistic opportunities in the state.
Joining a distinguished group of previous honorees—such as former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Bisi Fayemi and Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, former Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture—Sanwo-Olu’s induction highlights his dedication to cultural advocacy and progressive policies for the arts.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu has demonstrated immense support for the arts and culture sector. His contributions, particularly in the promotion of creative industries in Lagos, deserve commendation,” stated Mr. Israel Eboh, NANTAP President, who praised the governor’s role in creating an environment for the arts to flourish.
The convention will convene theatre practitioners, policymakers, and key stakeholders to explore the role of theatre in national development, with the award ceremony honouring Governor Sanwo-Olu as a significant highlight on December 7, 2024.
