Scheduled Maintenance to Temporarily Interrupt Power Supply in Gombe, Yola, Bauchi

Electricity consumers in Gombe, as well as certain areas in Yola and Bauchi states, are set to experience a temporary power outage on Thursday and Friday due to scheduled maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The TCN has announced that its maintenance crew will be conducting scheduled preventive maintenance on the bay of its T1A 150MVA, 330/132/33kV transformer bay on January 18 and 19, 2024.

According to Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, the maintenance is expected to last for eight hours, running from 9 am to 5 pm on both days.

Mbah explained that to initiate the maintenance, “TCN would transfer the load from T1A 150MVA transformer to its T2A 150MVA transformer in the same substation.” As a result, there will be an interruption of bulk power supply to Jos and Yola Distribution Companies (DisCos) through the T1A transformer.

However, she clarified that this interruption would only impact bulk supply during the transfer period and not for the entire eight-hour maintenance exercise on both days.

“The short outage during the transfer period would affect supply to Gombe and some parts of Yola and Bauchi states only, during the transfer time on both days. TCN will, however, restore bulk power supply through the transformer immediately after the maintenance exercise,” Mbah assured.

The TCN expressed regret for any inconvenience this temporary interruption may cause electricity consumers within the affected areas.

It’s worth noting that the TCN maintenance crew had previously conducted scheduled preventive maintenance on the Jos-Lafia 330kV transmission lines last Saturday, which had been redundant for some time.
