A top security analyst has dismissed a viral video purportedly showing members of Boko Haram or ISWAP, describing it as a “poorly produced propaganda clip” aimed at deceiving Nigerians and inciting ethnic tension.

According to the expert, who has extensively investigated armed groups in the Lake Chad region, the footage bears no resemblance to any authentic communication released by the extremist organisations.

“This video is fake. It was poorly produced to deceive Nigerians and to fuel ethnic conflict, but it will have no meaningful impact in the country,” he said.

He explained that Boko Haram and ISWAP have never released videos in which their fighters cover their faces in such a clumsy manner or speak in the unusual style heard in the recording.

“The manner of speaking, the presentation, and the entire production do not resemble anything linked to Boko Haram or ISWAP. These are not Fulani people, and they are not Boko Haram members. This is a propaganda creation aimed at giving the impression that religious and ethnic crises have overtaken the country,” the security analyst, Zagazola Makama, stated.

The video has continued to circulate on social media, but experts insist it is part of a broader effort to manipulate public perception and heighten mistrust among communities.
