Kyari was invited alongside the former Chief Financial Officer of the company, Umar Ajia Isa, and the former Chief Upstream Investment Officer, Bala Wunti, to explain discrepancies reportedly identified in the company’s financial records.

Chairman of the committee, Aliyu Wadada, said the former officials are expected to appear before the panel to provide clarifications on the issues raised during the review of the company’s accounts.

Wadada warned that the committee may issue arrest warrants if the invited officials fail to honour the summons.

During the session, lawmakers also raised questions over the reported ₦5 billion spent on rebranding the former Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to the current Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, seeking explanations on the justification for the expenditure.

The committee said the investigation is part of its constitutional oversight responsibilities aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
