Speaking on Thursday while chairing the 8th NCS meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Shettima emphasized the need to harness the creativity and innovation of Nigerians to drive the country’s industrial growth.

He noted that the council’s responsibilities extend beyond preparations for the 48th WorldSkills Competition scheduled for Shanghai 2026, describing the initiative as a pathway to global relevance for Nigerian talent across various sectors.

“Our goal is to ensure that Made in Nigeria is synonymous with world-class,” the Vice President said, adding that the initiative would empower professionals ranging from technology developers to industrial workers and agricultural innovators.

Shettima highlighted the roles of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), describing them as critical institutions driving human capital development under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He stressed that collaboration among government institutions, state authorities, and the private sector remains essential to achieving the council’s objectives, noting that such partnerships are key to delivering jobs, opportunities, and a sustainable future for Nigerians.

The council also reviewed Nigeria’s participation in WorldSkills 2026 and considered a proposal by Dangote Industries to conduct a one-month “train-the-trainer” programme for 100 candidates in high-demand technical fields, including industrial mechanics, electronics, welding, and heavy-duty equipment operations.

The initiative was commended by the council, which requested periodic updates on its implementation.

The meeting was attended by key government officials, including Uba Sani and several ministers, underscoring the administration’s commitment to strengthening skills development and workforce capacity nationwide.
