Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged leaders and residents of Northern Nigeria to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, saying the region stands to benefit further from the administration’s policies, appointments and development projects.

Shettima made the appeal on Monday while receiving a delegation from Arewa for Tinubu (A4A), a northern-based group mobilising support for the President’s re-election.

He called for unity among northern leaders and citizens, stressing the need to prioritise regional development and the welfare of the people.

According to the Vice President, the North has benefited from the administration’s programmes and should continue to engage with its development agenda.

He cited the Bank of Agriculture’s reported disbursement of ₦450 billion to 700,000 smallholder farmers across Nigeria, noting that about 70 per cent of the beneficiaries were from the North.

“We are benefiting and we stand to benefit more from this government in many ways,” Shettima said, adding that the President remained committed to development across the region.

The Vice President commended the group for its support and urged members to intensify their mobilisation efforts across wards, communities and local government areas ahead of the 2027 election.

Earlier, the Director-General of Arewa for Asiwaju and former Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru, said the organisation was determined to sustain its campaign for Tinubu’s re-election.

Badaru disclosed that the group planned to engage religious leaders, including Muslim and Christian clerics, as well as other prominent Nigerians, to seek support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.

He added that the organisation was working with the Presidential Campaign Council while focusing on grassroots mobilisation at the ward and local government levels.

The Chairman of the group’s Board of Trustees and former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, said A4A, which supported Tinubu during the 2023 general election, was preparing to repeat its mobilisation efforts in 2027.

Shekarau said the organisation had been engaging northern governors and other stakeholders to identify areas of cooperation. He also announced plans for a dedicated secretariat to coordinate activities, assess reports and guide state coordinators and members.

He formally invited Shettima to commission the group’s office complex on October 17, 2027.

Former governors and other dignitaries at the meeting included Joshua Dariye and Simon Lalong of Plateau State, Jolly Nyame of Taraba State, Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Ibrahim Shehu Shema of Katsina State and Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State.

Also present were the President’s Special Adviser on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, and the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd.), alongside other government officials and A4A members.

The meeting focused on strengthening the group’s mobilisation strategy and building support for the Tinubu administration ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
