Sokoto–Oyo Abduction: Gamji College Clarifies 18 Victims Were Not Students
The Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto State, has clarified that the 18 passengers reportedly abducted while travelling from Sokoto to Oyo State were not students of the institution, contrary to earlier reports.
According to information obtained by SpyeTV News from the college, the passengers were travelling in a commercial bus from Yabo Moukwa in Sokoto State towards Oyo State.
The clarification revealed that only one of the passengers had a connection with a tertiary health institution in Sokoto. She was a recent graduate of the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Sokoto, who had returned to the state to collect her academic certificate.
The former student was reportedly travelling back to Oyo State when the vehicle came under attack. The bus driver, who was said to be her uncle, was reportedly killed during the incident.
Her academic certificate was also recovered at the scene, which may have contributed to the initial reports linking the vehicle to students of Gamji College of Health Technology.
A source from Gamji College confirmed that the victims were passengers travelling in the commercial vehicle and stressed that none of the 18 passengers was a student of the institution.
Earlier reports had also linked the passengers to Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, but subsequent clarification indicated that they were not students of the university.
The incident reportedly occurred along the route from Sokoto towards Oyo State, with the passengers taken away after the driver was allegedly killed.
The development has renewed concerns over the safety of travellers along inter-state highways linking the North-West with other parts of the country.
Security agencies are expected to continue efforts to establish the identities and circumstances surrounding the victims and secure their safe release.
