In a public statement, Prof. Soyinka said, “You don’t just open your mouth and say I’m coming to help you whether you like it or not, and I’m coming with violence and I’m coming with guns-a-blazing. That’s not the language of someone whose head is correct.”
The veteran intellectual was responding to Trump’s statements regarding Islamist violence in northern Nigeria and the potential for U.S. intervention. Soyinka’s comments underscore concerns about the implications of foreign military involvement and the need for careful, measured diplomacy in addressing security challenges.
