Sultan Urges Traditional Rulers to Remain Neutral, Strengthen Peace, Security
The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged heads of traditional institutions to remain neutral in political matters and treat all political actors equally, stressing their important role in promoting peace, security and social development at the grassroots.
The Sultan made the call while addressing District Heads in Sokoto, where he urged them to remain security-conscious within their respective domains and promptly alert relevant authorities to developments capable of threatening peace and stability.
He emphasised the importance of traditional institutions in maintaining harmony and supporting efforts to safeguard communities.
During the engagement, the Commander of the Sokoto State Hisbah Board, Usman Jatau, briefed the District Heads on the Board’s efforts to address social challenges, particularly extravagance associated with wedding ceremonies and other forms of immorality.
Jatau appealed for greater support from traditional rulers in promoting responsible social practices and building a decent society.
Also at the forum, the Director of the National Population Commission (NPC), Sokoto State Office, Sani Ladan Dogondaji, alongside representatives of UNICEF, sensitised the District Heads on the importance of birth and death registration.
They explained that accurate registration of vital events is essential for effective planning, access to social services, legal identity and evidence-based development.
The engagement provided an opportunity for traditional institutions and relevant agencies to strengthen collaboration on security, social development and the wellbeing of communities across Sokoto State.
