Sustain declining records of crashes in Gombe, FRSC boss tasks Special Marshals

The Gombe State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Ishaku Ibrahim has tasked the newly inaugurated Special Marshal state executives to work to sustain the declining records of crashes in the state.

Ishaku gave the charge on Saturday while inaugurating the newly elected state executives of Gombe Sector Command Special Marshal in Lafiyawo Community in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe state.

He said special marshal had been playing key role in ensuring road safety in the state.

Ibrahim said the event was important in the command’s efforts to create safe motoring environment for the general motoring public and improving safety awareness amongst users of road in the state.

He said the special marshal was made up of men and women of proven integrity who could influence their immediate environment in relation to road safety.

According to him, the special marshals have contributed to the achievements recorded so far in Gombe, as they “ have been empowered to carry out patrols and other activities to ensure proper and safe use of roads.’’

“The success story of FRSC cannot be written without the special marshals. They have been complementing some shortfalls encountered by the corps,’’ he said.

He stated that the new executives had four years non-renewable term to serve Gombe motorists and assist in ensuring consistent reduction in the number of crashes as being recorded in the last one year.

Ibrahim while congratulating the newly inaugurated executives charged them to “bring fresh ideas and vibrancy to the road safety project in Gombe state.’’

He further charged the regular marshals and other stakeholders to give the newly inaugurated special marshals the needed support to ensure robust synergy and collective effort in enhancing safety on Gombe roads.

Also speaking, the Zonal Coordinator of Special Marshals, Mr Hakeem Dankishiya charged the newly inagurated executives to be focused in their quest to serve the people.

Dankishiya said the special marshal had the duty to educate citizens on the offences that road users commit as well as enlighten them on how best to use the road to ensure safety.

He stated that the integrity of the special marshal was paramount to the corps, hence charged the inaugurated executives to do their job with the needed integrity that would attract more persons to join them.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Moses Nnadi, the newly inaugurated coordinator, Gombe state special marshal, pledged to uplift the integrity of the corps through “loyalty, honesty, safety, integrity and accountability.’’

Nnadi said the tasks before the new executives were huge, but “we will work hard and justify the trust and confidence bestowed on us and always remember the oath of allegiance we took as special marshals.’’

He stated that they would offer their services in the area of traffic control, vehicle inspection, public awareness on road safety rules and regulation, patrol, care of accident victims, amongst others.

Nnadi advised motorists in Gombe state to obtain authentic drivers license, particulars for their cars, always use seat belts, ensure regular check of their vehicles; avoid over-speeding and over-loading, drunk driving and use of drugs.

The ten-member executives of the Gombe Sector Commander Special Marshal has Mr Daniel Ali as its secretary.

The special marshal is the volunteer arm of FRSC created by Section 10 (1) of the FRSC statue.
