By Auwal Gombe
Chief Executive of Connected Development (CODE), founder of Follow The Money, Hamzat Lawal has advised
the new chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede to enhance collaboration among the agency, civil society organizations, and other government agencies to foster a comprehensive approach to tackling corruption.
Lawal gave this advice on Friday in Abuja during a programme tagged, “Good Governance”, saying that there was a need to maintain transparency and accountability within the EFCC and its operations to ensure public trust and credibility.
According to him, ensuring robust protection for whistleblowers who report corruption is also vital for encouraging individuals to come forward with information.
Lawal harped on the efficient recovery and forfeiture of assets gained through corruption, saying that the new EFCC boss should find a way to streamline these processes.

He also encouraged the engagement of the youth and the public in anti-corruption efforts through awareness campaigns and education for building a corruption-free society.
He therefore urged Olukoyede to uphold the independence of the commission in its operations, ensuring that it remains free from undue political influence.
He stressed that Olukoyede needs to provide solid and moral leadership to guide the EFCC in fulfilling its mandate and encourage a culture of continuous learning and adaptation to address evolving forms of corruption.
