Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has convened an emergency security meeting following the deadly attack on Binnari village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area and redesignated the area as a Local Government Area of Particular Security Concern for another six months.

The attack occurred on Friday, October 23, 2026, claiming lives, traumatising families and disrupting peace in affected communities.

The emergency meeting, held at the Chamber of the T. Y. Danjuma House in Jalingo, focused on the attack, the impact on residents and measures to prevent further violence.

Speaking at the meeting, Governor Kefas condemned the incident, describing its consequences as devastating for the affected families and communities.

“We have gathered to mourn those we have lost, support those affected, and agree on the actions required to protect our people,” the Governor said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.

“Our long-standing peace must not be disrupted by those who seek to destroy it. We are on track to identify and apprehend the criminals who have vowed to threaten our peace and security,” Kefas declared.

The Governor expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of Binnari community, praying for the peaceful repose of the departed and comfort for those affected by the tragedy.

He disclosed that relevant authorities had been directed to account for all missing persons, establish their whereabouts and provide necessary support to affected individuals and families.

Kefas also charged security agencies to investigate the movement of the attackers, establish their possible motives and determine whether they were linked to other criminal activities.

He stressed the need for a coordinated security framework to protect Binnari and neighbouring communities against further attacks.

The Governor called on traditional rulers, ward and village heads, youths and farmers to provide credible information to security agencies through appropriate channels to support efforts to restore peace.

He also urged members of the public and the media to verify information before sharing or publishing it, warning that unconfirmed reports could heighten tension in the affected communities.

The emergency meeting and the extension of Karim Lamido’s designation as a Local Government Area of Particular Security Concern for another six months underscore the state government’s decision to maintain heightened security attention in the area.
