Theatre Commander Urges Troops to Eliminate Terrorist Remnants in the Timbuktu Triangle
In a visit aimed at boosting morale and reinforcing commitment, Major General W Shaibu, the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force (JTF) North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), called on troops to remain dedicated and disciplined in the ongoing mission to flush out terrorist remnants in the Timbuktu Triangle.
The commander issued
this charge during his inaugural operational visit to Headquarters Sector 2 OPHK in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
The purpose of the visit was to familiarise Gen Shaibu with the formation, assess the troops’ progress, and commend them for their efforts in the continuous offensive against the remaining terrorists in the Theatre of Operations. He acknowledged that due to their sacrifices, people can now engage in their lawful activities peacefully.
Gen Shaibu reassured the troops that “the Nigerian Army would consistently provide the necessary equipment and resources for the ongoing warfare. So, I enjoin you to follow your commanders’ instructions, because it is only with the right resources, management, and leadership that the OPHK’s objectives can be realised.”
Upon arrival, the Theatre Commander was welcomed by the Commander of Sector 2 OPHK, Major General MLD Saraso, who briefed him on the sector’s operational activities. Subsequently, Gen Shaibu visited the 27 Task Force (TF) Brigade in Buni-Gari, where he received a comprehensive briefing from Brigade Commander Brigadier General MJ Abubakar. Additionally, he visited the Nigerian Army Special Forces School (NASFS) in Buni Yadi, where he was briefed by the Commandant, Brigadier General VD Beryo.
Addressing the troops of 27 TF Brigade, Gen Shaibu urged collaboration with personnel from other sister security agencies, expressing appreciation for their collective efforts. He acknowledged the critical role played by the troops of NASFS in ongoing operations through the valuable training they provide.
Highlights of the visit included the presentation of a quarter guard, exchange of mementos, signing of the visitor’s book, and group photographs to commemorate the occasion.
