Theatre Commander Visits Shehu of Borno, Seeks Enhanced Support
The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force (JTF) North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General W Shaibu, paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness the Shehu of Borno at the Shehu’s Palace in Maiduguri on Thursday 15 February 2024.

General Shaibu stated that the purpose of his visit was to pay homage to the royal father, having recently assumed command as the 14th Theatre Commander, and to seek prayers and increased support for ongoing operations, particularly in non-kinetic measures. He acknowledged the progress made in combating terrorism but emphasised the need for continued efforts to eradicate the menace.
The Theatre Commander also assured the royal father of adequate security during the forthcoming Kanem Borno Summit in Maiduguri, which is expected to draw dignitaries from across the country.
In response, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Dr Abubakar Umar Ibn Garbai Al – Amin El – Kanemi, expressed gratitude for the visit and commended the military for its efforts in Maiduguri. He noted that “the establishment of the Military Command and Control Centre has significantly improved the fight against insurgency in the North East,” he said, adding that normalcy had been restored to Maiduguri and its surroundings thanks to government efforts and the security agencies.
Dr Abubakar implored the Theatre Commander to continue providing security to locals, particularly around Lake Chad, to facilitate their farming activities and boost economic activity in the area. He assured the Theatre Commander that his support and advice would always be available for the progress of operations and the well-being of society.
Present at the visit were the Theatre Logistics Component Commander Brigadier General EJ Ikomi, Maritime Component Commander Commodore GPZ Ado Gambo, Brigadier General B Sarki the Theatre Intelligence Coordinator, district heads from the Borno Emirate Council, and staff officers of Headquarters Theatre Command.
