President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the reported killing of one of the teachers abducted during a bandit attack on schools in Oyo State, describing the act as barbaric and heartbreaking.

The President’s reaction followed the invasion of the Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area by armed bandits last Friday, during which staff, students and pupils of Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School were abducted.

In a statement issued by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed sympathy to Governor Seyi Makinde, the government and people of Oyo State, as well as the families of the victims affected by the attack.

“I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community. I sympathise with Governor Seyi Makinde and commend the steps he has taken on the matter. I sympathise with the families of the kidnapped victims,” the President stated.

He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is working closely with the Oyo State Government and security agencies to secure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

President Tinubu commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as well as the Commissioners of Police in Oyo and Kwara State for their swift response and deployment of tactical and Intelligence Response Team operatives to the affected area.

According to the President, the Inspector-General of Police is personally coordinating the ongoing technology-driven rescue operation following his directive.

“The IGP, following my instructions, is personally leading the tech-driven operation. We expect a breakthrough soon. The bandits and all their local collaborators will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law,” Tinubu said.

The President also renewed his call for the establishment of state police, describing the recent wave of kidnappings and insecurity as further proof of the urgent need for decentralised policing in underserved communities.

“Cases of kidnapping further make imperative the establishment of state police to man some of our underserved areas. The National Assembly should accelerate the enactment of the law creating state police,” he added.
