The President announced that the new military formation will lead Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at crushing terrorist activities in the area and protecting vulnerable communities.

Condemning the attack, President Tinubu described the assailants as cowardly and heartless for targeting defenceless villagers in what he called a doomed campaign of terror.

He expressed anger over reports that the attackers killed residents who resisted their attempt at indoctrination, choosing instead to practise a peaceful form of Islam.

“It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promotes violence over peace and dialogue,” the President said.

Tinubu directed federal and state agencies to work closely to provide relief to affected residents and ensure that those responsible for the atrocities are brought to justice.

He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and extended condolences to grieving families, as well as to the people and government of Kwara State.

The directive was contained in a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dated February 4, 2026.
