Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Child Protection, Safe Schools on Children’s Day
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting Nigerian children and ensuring they have access to safe learning environments, healthcare and opportunities for growth.
In his message commemorating the 2026 Children’s Day celebration themed “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” the President celebrated children across the country, including those excelling academically, learning vocational skills, living with disabilities and those facing difficult circumstances while continuing to show resilience and hope.
He described Nigerian children as the pride of the nation and the custodians of the country’s future, stressing that the future of Nigeria depends on the opportunities created for children today.
Tinubu noted that this year’s Children’s Day coincides with Eid-el-Kabir and expressed concern over the plight of children and teachers currently being held captive by criminal groups in parts of the country, particularly in Oyo and Borno states.
Addressing affected families, the President assured them that the government had not forgotten their plight and pledged continued efforts toward securing the safe return of abducted children and other victims.
He disclosed that he had directed security agencies to intensify coordinated and intelligence-led rescue operations focused on recovering abducted children and vulnerable citizens safely.
The President also announced measures aimed at strengthening school safety in vulnerable communities, including updated school vulnerability assessments, stronger collaboration between state governments and security agencies, rapid response systems and enhanced community-based early warning mechanisms.
According to him, the Federal Ministry of Education will work with state governments to deepen the implementation of the Safe Schools framework through improved reporting structures, defined responsibilities and specific timelines for action.
Tinubu further stressed that government responsibility does not end with the rescue of victims, noting that children affected by abduction, violence and displacement should receive medical care, counselling, education and reintegration support.
He called on parents, traditional rulers, teachers, religious leaders, youth groups, transport unions and community members to support efforts aimed at protecting children, emphasizing that child safety requires collective responsibility.
The President reiterated that his administration remains committed to investing in education, healthcare, nutrition, social protection, digital skills development and safer communities to ensure every Nigerian child can live, learn and pursue their dreams without fear.
