Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation of Zainab Marwa for NDDC Board Appointment
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of Zainab Marwa as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
The request was conveyed in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and read during plenary on Thursday.
In the correspondence, President Tinubu sought the Senate’s confirmation of Dr. Marwa’s nomination to represent the North-East geopolitical zone on the NDDC Board.
The appointment, if confirmed by the Senate, will fill the North-East representative position on the commission’s governing board in line with the provisions establishing the NDDC.
The Senate is expected to refer the nomination to the appropriate committee for screening and further legislative consideration before a final decision is taken by the upper chamber.
The NDDC is responsible for facilitating the sustainable development of the Niger Delta region through the implementation of infrastructure, economic and social intervention programmes aimed at improving the lives of communities within the oil-producing region.
Dr. Marwa’s nomination forms part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen the leadership and governance structure of the commission as it pursues its developmental mandate.
