Tinubu Sends Five Executive Communications to Senate, Seeks Approval for Key Bills

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transmitted five executive communications to the Senate for consideration and approval, covering institutional reforms, drug-related investigations, state reimbursement and international legal protocols.

According to a statement by the Senate, the submissions include a bill seeking to expand the mandate of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) to cover the maritime sector.

Also included is a bill seeking the repeal and re-enactment of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act to strengthen the investigation of suspected drug-related offences.

The President has also transmitted a bill seeking to repeal the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) Act and establish the National School of Government.

Another submission seeks Senate approval for the reimbursement of ₦100.5 billion to Yobe State following the Federal Government’s takeover of the cargo airport in Damaturu.

The fifth communication concerns the domestication of additional protocols to the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, aimed at strengthening the legal framework for addressing genocide and related offences.

Meanwhile, the Senate paid tribute to victims of the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, and called for a transparent investigation into the incident.

The communications are expected to undergo legislative consideration as the Senate reviews the proposed legal and policy measures.
