President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the latest economic growth figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which show that Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 4.23 per cent recorded in Q2 2025.

The President described the figures as encouraging, noting that the growth was recorded across key sectors of the economy, including agriculture, manufacturing, oil and gas, and services.

According to the NBS report, the services sector remained the largest contributor to Nigeria’s aggregate GDP during the quarter.

In nominal terms, Nigeria’s aggregate GDP rose to N119.27 trillion in Q2 2026, representing an 18.43 per cent increase compared with the N100.7 trillion recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

President Tinubu said the latest figures were evidence that the economic reforms being implemented by his administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda were beginning to produce tangible results.

He said the administration had spent the past three years taking difficult decisions aimed at stabilising the economy and creating the foundation for sustainable growth.

“In the past three years, we tried to do the hard part by implementing the necessary reforms to stabilise the economy. Now the economy is stabilised, and we have laid the foundation for a prosperous nation. We didn’t do the reforms to create challenges, but to ensure prosperity reaches all our people,” the President stated.

Tinubu pointed to what he described as several positive developments arising from the reforms, including stronger external reserves, improved credit ratings, increased oil and gas production, infrastructure development and renewed investor interest in Nigeria.

He also highlighted the administration’s efforts in the education sector, noting that students were remaining in school while initiatives such as the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) were providing access to student loans.

According to the President, the government is also working to expand access to affordable credit for civil servants through the CreditCorp initiative.

“The results of the efforts are becoming very clear to all: The Renewed Hope Agenda is working,” he said.

The President acknowledged that many Nigerians were still facing economic difficulties, stressing that the government would intensify measures designed to cushion the impact of those challenges.

He said upcoming interventions would focus on providing cheaper transportation, increasing food production and expanding relief programmes targeted at vulnerable Nigerians at the grassroots.

“Under our watch, the economy is on the irreversible path to experience even more growth that all homes will feel at the dining table and in their pockets,” Tinubu said.

The President, however, cautioned that the government would not become complacent, saying stronger economic growth must ultimately translate into improved living standards for ordinary Nigerians.

“We are not resting on our oars. We are fully committed to translating consistent, stronger economic performance into better microeconomic outcomes for our citizens,” he said.

He further stressed the need to protect the gains achieved so far and ensure that the country remains on a sustainable path of economic expansion.

“We must stay vigilant by ensuring the sustainable progress we are recording remains irreversible,” the President added.

The latest GDP figures provide a positive indicator for the Nigerian economy as the Tinubu administration continues to pursue fiscal, monetary and structural reforms aimed at strengthening economic stability, encouraging investment and promoting long-term growth.
