Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded another major breakthrough in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in Nigeria’s North-West with the arrest of four suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group and the recovery of rustled cattle during an intelligence-led operation in Sokoto State.
The operation, carried out on August 6, 2026, followed credible intelligence indicating that suspected Lakurawa terrorists had infiltrated the Darusa Village Market to sell cattle allegedly stolen during previous attacks.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops stormed the market, identified the suspects and apprehended them without resistance.
Items recovered during the operation included six rustled cows, two mobile phones and ₦165,000, believed to be proceeds from the intended sale of the stolen livestock.
The suspects were identified as Usman Bammo, 45, of Huss Village in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State; Muhammadu Dage, 25, of Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State; Ali Usman, 23, of Binji Local Government Area of Sokoto State; and Abubakar Garba, 30, of Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Military sources disclosed that the suspects are currently in custody undergoing preliminary interrogation to determine the extent of their involvement in terrorist activities and cattle rustling linked to the Lakurawa network.
According to the sources, the suspects will be handed over to the appropriate security agencies for further investigation and prosecution after the completion of preliminary investigations.
The latest operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which has continued to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt criminal activities, recover stolen property and strengthen security across the North-West.
Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements, while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance the protection of lives and property.
