Troops Foil Attacks in Plateau, Arrest Impostors Disguised as Security Operatives
Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, have recorded a major breakthrough in efforts to restore peace in Plateau State, following a series of successful operations targeting criminal elements behind recent violence.
In a statement issued by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the task force, the troops, acting on a distress call, intercepted and arrested two individuals masquerading as security operatives during a late-night operation at Dutse Uku in Jos North Local Government Area.
The suspects, dressed in black tactical uniforms, were apprehended at about 11:45 p.m. while allegedly participating in the burning of residential properties and orchestrating violence within the community. They are currently in custody.
The operation also led to the rescue of two persons who sustained gunshot wounds. The victims were promptly evacuated to a medical facility, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
According to the military, the arrest of the suspects dispels allegations of complicity by security forces in the unrest, revealing that criminal elements have been disguising as personnel to perpetrate attacks and tarnish the image of the Armed Forces.
In a related development, troops extended their operations to Karem in Wase Local Government Area, where they disrupted the movement of suspected terrorists travelling on motorcycles. The insurgents reportedly fled after engaging with troops, while three were neutralised during the encounter.
The military attributed the success of the operations to the recent deployment of additional troops, including specialised counter-terrorism units, ordered by the Chief of Army Staff.
The reinforcement, it said, has significantly strengthened security presence and improved response capacity in volatile areas across the state.
The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating criminal elements and restoring lasting peace, warning that all perpetrators of violence would be decisively dealt with.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities to relevant authorities.
