In a decisive operation, troops from the I Division of the Nigerian Army have neutralized a terrorist and recovered a cache of weapons in Kaduna State.

The operation took place on August 25, during clearance missions in the areas of Sabon Birni, Dogon Dawa, Maidaro, Ngede Alpha, and Rafin Kaji.

Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for I Division, confirmed the development in a statement released on Monday.

“Troops, while on clearance operations, made contact with terrorist elements. In the ensuing firefight, our troops overpowered and neutralized one of the terrorists, while others fled with suspected gunshot injuries,” Yahaya stated.

The operation led to the recovery of four AK-47 magazines—three fully loaded with 60 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and one empty magazine—a PKT belt with 86 rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles (one of which was destroyed), a Tecno mobile phone, a Baofeng handheld radio, and an Airtel recharge card worth N5,000.

Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) I Division and Commander of “Operation WHIRL PUNCH,” commended the troops for their successful operation.

He urged them to intensify their efforts and make life unbearable for terrorists, insurgents, and their collaborators within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.

He also expressed gratitude to the people of Kaduna, Kano, Niger, and Jigawa States for their continued cooperation, encouraging them to utilize the Division’s Toll-Free Line “0800 002 0204” to report actionable intelligence that could aid security operations against criminal elements.
