Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State, reaffirming the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s sustained momentum in counter-terrorism operations across the North-East.

The attack, which occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, saw insurgents attempt to breach the military facility’s defensive perimeter. However, troops under the leadership of the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, responded swiftly with superior firepower, engaging the attackers in a fierce exchange that forced them to retreat in disarray.

Military authorities described the failed assault as a sign of desperation by terrorist elements weakened by recent operational losses. The troops’ rapid and coordinated response was said to reflect a high level of combat readiness, resilience, and operational effectiveness in defending critical national assets.

Despite the successful defence, the Armed Forces confirmed the loss of some soldiers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, paid tribute to the fallen personnel, honouring their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the nation.

He extended condolences to the families of the deceased, noting that their bravery would remain a lasting source of pride and inspiration to both the military and the country.

The Defence Headquarters urged the public and media to allow due process in notifying next of kin before the release of further details, while also cautioning against the spread of misinformation and unverified reports that could undermine ongoing operations.

Meanwhile, clearance and exploitation operations are ongoing in the area to track fleeing insurgents and prevent any attempt at regrouping. The Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment, alongside other security agencies, to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups and restoring lasting peace to the region.

Citizens have been encouraged to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
