UK Deputy Defence Chief Praises Nigerian Army’s Dedication to Peace and Stability in Africa
During his visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, the United Kingdom’s Deputy Chief of Defense Staff, Lieutenant General Sir Roly Walker, lauded the Nigerian Army (NA) for its unwavering commitment to peace and stability across Africa.

General Walker commended the NA’s steadfast efforts in peacekeeping initiatives throughout the continent, underscoring its pivotal role in addressing regional security challenges. He emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts to effectively tackle persistent security concerns.
Furthermore, General Walker expressed his anticipation for the upcoming security and defense dialogue between the UK and Nigeria.”UK remain committed to strengthening its partnership with the Nigerian Army and I wish to reaffirm our support for initiatives aimed at enhancing regional security and stability.”
In response, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) acknowledged the positive working relationship between the two armies and the invaluable contributions of the British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT). He highlighted the significant impact of BMATT’s assistance in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
The Army Chief also emphasised the crucial role of BMATT’s support in the capacity development of the NA. “BMATT’s assistance has significantly enhanced the NA’s capabilities in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria and the wider subregion,” he affirmed.
The COAS pledged the NA’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with the UK and expanding areas of collaboration in order to achieve their shared security objectives.
