Ummah University Appoints Kumshe Acting Vice-Chancellor

The Governing Council of Ummah University of Nigeria, Abuja, has approved the appointment of Professor Ahmed Modu Kumshe as the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor.

Mr Kumshe, a Professor of Accounting and Finance at the University of Maiduguri, is expected to assume office on October 1, 2026, subject to applicable laws and regulatory requirements governing private universities in Nigeria.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the university’s Founder and Pro-Chancellor, Dr Mohammed Kyari Dikwa.

According to the statement, the appointment is aimed at providing “visionary, ethical and accountable leadership” as the university advances preparations for its successful take-off and long-term development.

As Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kumshe will serve as the university’s Chief Executive and Chief Academic Officer, with responsibility for its administration, academic development, financial management and institutional growth.

The Governing Council said it was confident that the professor would provide the leadership needed to establish the university as an institution known for academic excellence, integrity, innovation and national impact.

“Professor Kumshe brings to the new assignment a distinguished academic and professional profile,” the council said.

Professor Kumshe has held several academic and administrative positions at the University of Maiduguri, including Head of the Department of Accounting, Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences and Deputy Director of the Centre for Distance Learning.

He also served as Registrar and Chief Executive of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and as a member of its Governing Council.

Before his appointment, he was Chairman of the Planning and Implementation Committee of Ummah University, where he played a key role in the processes that culminated in the establishment and licensing of the institution.

The university said his experience would be valuable as it enters a new phase of institutional development.

“The University warmly congratulates Professor Ahmed Modu Kumshe on his appointment and looks forward to his leadership as the institution embarks on this important phase of its development,” the statement added.

The appointment takes effect on October 1, 2026.
