Unity Key to Nigeria’s Security, Defence Minister Tells Armed Forces at AFCRD Gala
The Honourable Minister of Defence (HMOD), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reaffirmed the critical role of unity in safeguarding Nigeria’s security, declaring that collective effort remains the nation’s strongest defence.
General Musa made the statement while addressing guests at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebrations and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) Gala and Award Night held on 13 January 2026 at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. The high-profile event was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, other Service Chiefs, senior military leaders, and distinguished guests.
“When we put our hands together, there is no force we cannot overcome,” the Minister said, noting that the gathering symbolised a shared national commitment to honouring service, sacrifice, and excellence in the defence of Nigeria.

He further expressed deep appreciation to the families of fallen heroes and veterans, acknowledging their enduring sacrifices and reaffirming that the nation remains eternally grateful.
The Defence Minister подчеркed that security remains the foundation of national development under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. He noted that ongoing defence reforms, enhanced operational capabilities, improved welfare initiatives, and strengthened joint operations among the Armed Forces, in collaboration with other security agencies, are already yielding positive results across air, land, and maritime domains.
As he formally declared the Gala and Award Night open, General Musa called on all stakeholders to renew their collective resolve to build a more professional, united, and mission-ready Armed Forces—one that Nigerians can continue to trust and take pride in.
