University of Abuja Mourns Loss of Renowned Theatre Scholar, Prof Gbilekaa

The University of Abuja is in mourning following the passing of Professor Saint T. Gbilekaa, a leading scholar in dramatic theory and criticism from the Department of Theatre Arts.
Professor Gbilekaa, who was widely respected for his contributions to the field, died on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) after a brief illness.
In an email to the University community, the acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, expressed the institution’s deep sorrow over the loss.
“The passing of Professor Gbilekaa is a significant loss for the University of Abuja,” Maikudi stated.
“His impact went far beyond the classroom, leaving a lasting legacy on the lives of students, colleagues, and theatre arts practitioners,” she added.
The University extended its heartfelt condolences to Professor Gbilekaa’s family, friends, colleagues, and students worldwide, acknowledging the profound intellectual influence he had on so many.
