US Man, 21, Charged with Murder Over Death of Older Brother
A 21-year-old man, identified as Breylon Roberts, has been charged with first-degree premeditated homicide over the death of his 23-year-old older brother, Trey Cameron Roberts, at their family home in Southfield, Michigan, United States.
According to police, the incident occurred on Monday, October 19, 2026, amid reports of longstanding tension between the brothers.
Investigators believe resentment over Trey’s achievements at work and the respect he reportedly received from family members and friends may have contributed to the conflict.
Security footage from a neighbouring property reportedly captured sounds of gunfire before showing Breylon leaving the house with the family dog.
The brothers’ 17-year-old sister later returned home and discovered the incident, prompting her to contact emergency services.
Police subsequently detained Breylon and said evidence linking him to the incident had been recovered.
Speaking at a press conference, Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren said interviews with relatives and friends suggested that perceptions of Trey’s greater success may have contributed to the longstanding dispute.
“The conflict was reportedly related to the perceptions of the victim having greater success,” Barren said.
The police chief compared the incident to the biblical story of Cain and Abel, urging families to address serious disagreements before they escalate into violence.
Breylon has pleaded not guilty to the charge and was denied bail.
The case remains a reminder of the importance of addressing family conflicts and seeking help when disputes become serious. Allegations against the accused remain subject to judicial proceedings.
