Video of Retired General, Wife in Captivity Emerges Online, Appeals for Release
A video purportedly showing retired Army General Rabe Abubakar and his wife in captivity has surfaced online, with the couple making an emotional appeal for efforts to secure their release.
In the footage, which could not be independently verified, the couple appeared unharmed and called on government authorities, security agencies and community leaders to intervene in their situation.
The wife was seen appealing to the Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umaru Radda, as well as the chairmen of Matazu, Musawa, Kankiya, Charanchi and Kusada local government areas, to assist in facilitating discussions that could lead to their freedom.
According to the message conveyed in the video, a bandit leader is allegedly demanding the release of some detained associates in exchange for the couple’s freedom. The individuals mentioned in the appeal were identified as Aminu, Sani and Nasiru, who were said to have been arrested by security agencies.
The woman also relayed claims that the detained individuals and their seized property, including money, cows and rams, should be released as part of efforts to restore peace and enable residents to continue their farming activities without fear.
Authorities have yet to officially comment on the demands contained in the video, and there has been no confirmation from security agencies regarding the identities of the individuals mentioned or the circumstances surrounding their alleged detention.
The emergence of the footage has renewed concerns over insecurity, banditry and kidnapping in parts of Nigeria, where criminal groups have continued to target communities and prominent individuals for ransom and other demands.
Security agencies are expected to continue efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the victims and addressing the broader security challenges facing affected communities.
