Wike to Headline Oyo Emerging Political Leaders Summit, Sets Stage for 2027 Political Realignment

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is expected to take centre stage at the Oyo State Emerging Political Leaders Summit 2026, as political actors across the state converge in Ibadan to deliberate on coalition-building, grassroots mobilisation and the political direction of Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The summit, scheduled for August 24 and 25 at the Ibadan Civic Centre, is themed “Bridging the Gap, Uniting Political Strength, and Mobilizing Emerging Leaders for 2027.” Organisers say the gathering is designed to bring together emerging political leaders, grassroots mobilisers, party stakeholders and community actors across political divides, with particular emphasis on building support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Wike, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s contemporary political landscape, will deliver the keynote address titled “Bridging Political Divides, Building Strategic Alliances, and Mobilizing Oyo State for Progressive Victory in 2027.” His participation gives the summit a significant national political dimension, particularly as political parties and influential actors begin positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle.
The former Rivers State governor is expected to draw from his extensive experience in grassroots politics, party organisation and coalition-building as he addresses the question of how political actors can overcome divisions and construct effective alliances ahead of 2027. His appearance also places the Oyo gathering within the broader national conversation about realignment and the struggle for political influence ahead of the next general elections.
The summit will also feature Dr Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, as Chief Facilitator. Adedeji is expected to speak on “Fiscal Renewal, Revenue Mobilization, and the Economic Future of Oyo State in the Context of Nigeria’s Progressive National Agenda.” His participation is expected to provide an economic policy dimension to what is otherwise largely a political gathering.
Senator Barau I. Jibrin, Deputy President of the Senate, is listed as Special Guest of Honour, while other speakers include the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Wisdom Olawande; APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel; Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, Ismael Ahmed; and Seyi Tinubu.
Other prominent participants listed for the summit include Oloye Jumoke Akinjide, Chief Engineer Dotun Sanusi and Honourable Engineer Aderemi Abass Oseni, who are expected to address issues ranging from political reconciliation and youth mobilisation to private-sector participation, grassroots representation and political inclusion.
The organisers expect more than 1,000 participants from across Oyo State, including members and stakeholders of the APC, PDP, APM and other political parties, as well as independent political mobilisers, youth and women leaders, community actors, civil society representatives and members of the media.
A major feature of the two-day gathering will be the launch of the 50 Below 50 Project, Oyo State Chapter, alongside the signing of a Generational Inclusion Pact between Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the APC’s Oyo State governorship candidate, and emerging political leaders across the state.
The summit therefore appears designed to achieve more than a conventional political conference. At its core is an attempt to create a structured platform through which younger political actors and grassroots mobilisers can become more actively involved in shaping the state’s political future.
Wike’s keynote is likely to attract particular attention because of his reputation for political organisation and his influential role within the current administration. His message on building strategic alliances could resonate beyond the immediate APC agenda, particularly in a state where political competition has historically produced shifting alliances and complex relationships among political actors.
For the organisers, however, the immediate objective is clear: reduce political fragmentation, rebuild relationships among emerging leaders and establish a stronger grassroots network ahead of 2027.
With Wike, Adedeji, Barau and other national political figures expected in Ibadan, the Oyo Emerging Political Leaders Summit is shaping up as one of the early political gatherings through which the battle for influence ahead of the 2027 elections will begin to take clearer form.
