CORA, the Committee for Relevant Art, is set to launch its 2024 cultural season with the grand opening of the CORA Library & Resource Centre, located at Freedom Park on Lagos Island.
The inauguration of this flagship library is scheduled for Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 4 PM.
Situated in CORAVILLE, a dedicated space within Freedom Park for creative expression, the CORA Library & Resource Centre aims to cater to the interests of the general public, with a special focus on students and youth.
The primary objective is to promote education as the key to enlightenment and empowerment, contributing to nation-building and human capital development.
The library is envisioned as a hub for regular literary activities, including the flagship CORA BOOKTrek and the Literacy Campaign project, facilitating direct interactions between authors and readers.
The Library will also host workshops, seminars, and other literacy-focused programmes, becoming a home for artist organisations committed to enhancing literacy in the national consciousness.
The project has garnered support from various organisations and individuals, including Freedom Park, Chief Kayode Aderinokun (Chair of CORA Trustee), CORA Board members, subscribers, volunteers, and the Hawthornden Foundation. Donations from authors, publishers, bookstores, and the public at large have been instrumental in making this initiative a reality.
