World Food Day: Anom Seeks Stakeholders’ Collaboration

Cross River State Commissioner for Livestock, Aquaculture, and Fisheries Development, Ntufam Anom has called for a collective effort of all stakeholders in the Agric sector to achieve the global target of food security.
Giving his goodwill message during the symposium held at the Calabar Municipal Council hall in celebration of the 2023 World Food Day in Cross River State, the Commissioner maintained that this year’s theme: “Water is Life, Water is food, leave no one behind ” was very timely and as such it was pertinent for no one to be left out in the fight against global hunger.
He appreciated the state governor, Bassey Otu for his vision of creating the Ministry of Livestock, Aquaculture, and Fisheries Development with the mandate of becoming a viable and efficient livestock, aquaculture, and Fisheries production hub in Nigeria.
He added that Governor Otu’s vision was to create wealth and prosperity for farmers in the state through improved technology in animal husbandry, aquaculture, and deep-sea fishing.

Anom said, “For these responsibilities to be achieved, the Ministry is to formulate and implement policies of Government that will encourage fish production in order to provide fish protein for the populace, create employment, and wealth, and generate revenue in line with the people-first mantra of Government.”
He called on participants at the symposium to take advantage of the various paper presentations and acquire knowledge that will positively impact their lives and society at large.
Earlier in a welcome speech, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Hon Johnson Andiambey Ebokpo maintained that the event which is annually celebrated is to raise awareness on the need to eat healthily, showcasing better approaches to preparing meals as well as providing alternative means of fighting food insecurity through the exploitation of modern skills, systems and strategies.
He reiterated that the administration of Gov Otu is very deliberate and keen on changing the lives of Cross Riverians.
The occasion drew participants from the two government Ministries, Academia, commodity groups, Various value chains, and other Stakeholders in the sector.
