Yari Denies Link to Seized Gold Bars, Threatens Legal Action
Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari, has denied any connection to the gold bars recently seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, describing reports linking him to the incident as false, malicious, and politically motivated.
In a statement signed by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Abdullahi Abdulkarim Tsafe, Senator Yari dismissed the allegations, stressing that the EFCC had not identified him as a suspect or person of interest in relation to the seizure.
The statement accused political opponents of orchestrating what it described as a deliberate smear campaign aimed at damaging the senator’s reputation and undermining his growing political influence.
According to the statement, attempts to associate Yari with the seized gold bars were baseless and intended to mislead the public.
Yari’s camp further disclosed that legal action has been initiated against individuals, groups, and media organisations allegedly involved in originating, sponsoring, publishing, or amplifying the claims.
The statement maintained that the allegations would not diminish the senator’s contributions to public service or affect the confidence reposed in him by his supporters.
“No amount of falsehood or sponsored propaganda can erase Senator Yari’s record of service, diminish his contributions to nation-building, or weaken the confidence millions of Nigerians continue to repose in him,” the statement said.
The former governor reiterated his commitment to serving the people and urged the public to disregard what he described as unfounded reports linking him to the EFCC’s gold seizure case.
