Family members awoke to find her bed covered with clothes and jewelry, alongside a nearly five-foot-long shed snakeskin. The dramatic display quickly fueled rumors that she had transformed into a mythical “naagin” — a serpent woman from regional folklore. Curious residents gathered at the home, and police were eventually alerted as speculation spread.

However, investigators later determined there was nothing supernatural about the incident. According to police findings, the woman, identified as Reena, had intentionally arranged the scene to mislead her family and community while she fled with her romantic partner.

Authorities have since registered a formal report and assembled teams to locate the couple. Police dismissed the folklore claims, stating that the supposed transformation was a deliberate attempt to create confusion and buy time in order to evade the planned marriage.

The incident has drawn widespread attention, highlighting both the persistence of local myths and the lengths some individuals may go to in order to assert control over their personal choices.
