Zulum Pledges ₦50m to Boost Women’s Adult Islamic Education in Borno
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving female literacy and advancing education in Borno State with a ₦50 million pledge to support the Women’s Adult Islamic School.
The Governor made the commitment on Sunday during the Qur’anic graduation ceremony of 65 women from the weekend adult class of the Shehu Umar Ibn Abubakar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi Model Islamic School, held at the Shehuri Central Mosque in Maiduguri. He was represented by the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Hon. Babagana Malarima.
Hon. Malarima commended the school’s proprietor, management team, and dedicated instructors for their steadfast commitment to empowering women through Islamic knowledge. He also acknowledged the enduring contributions of His Royal Highness, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi, to education, peace, and stability in the state.
He assured that the Borno State Government will continue to support the model Islamic school “to the best of our ability,” stressing the administration’s resolve to uplift institutions that promote moral upbringing and educational advancement.

Delivering a goodwill message, Her Excellency Nana Kashim Shettima, wife of the Vice President—represented by the First Lady of Borno State, Assoc. Prof. Falmata Babagana Umara Zulum—highlighted the life-changing impact of Islamic education on women. She noted that such learning enriches them spiritually and equips them to become better mothers, supportive wives, and positive agents of community development.
She urged the graduating students to uphold the values they have acquired, including discipline, perseverance, and an enduring commitment to knowledge.
The ceremony underscored the state government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen women’s education and enhance Islamic learning across Borno State.
