Artisan in court for alleged criminal trespass

An artisan, Obin Chukwu, on Friday appeared in a  Wuse Zone Six Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for alleged criminal trespass.

The police charged Chukwu with two counts of criminal trespass and attempt to commit an offence.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP  Peter Ejike told the court that the complainant, Ejeh Paul, of the NSCDC, attached to ULO Plaza, Wuse Zone Five, Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuse Three Police Divisional Headquarters on Feb.9.

Ejike alleged that the defendant at about 2. 05a.m/,  unlawfully gained entrance into the said plaza by scaling the fence.

 The prosecutor said that when the defendant was arrested and during police investigation, he could not offer any reasonable explanation for his actions.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 95 and 348 of the Penal Code.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The defence counsel, P. C Ihunweze, applied for the bail of the defendant, urging the court to grant it in the most liberal terms.

Magistrate Linda Chidama admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one reasonable surety in like sum.

Chidama ordered that the surety must be a work of a reputable corporate organization within the FCT, with verifiable evidence.

She adjourned the case until  March 11, for hearing .(NAN)
