Buhari commissions Dangote refinery
President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned Dangote Refinery, saying that the incoming administration will build on its success
Buhari did the commissioning on Monday at the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos.
He said, “I am confident that my successor, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will sustain the improvement in our economy and business environment. Dangote refinery will contribute to the industrialization of our economy and that of our continent.”
He said the event was a notable milestone for Nigeria’s economy and a game changer for the downstream petroleum products market for the entire African continent, stressing that it was not the first time Dangote’s leadership was putting Nigeria on the global map.
According to President Buhari, Dangote Group had helped to transform the country’s economy from heavy import dependence to a net exporter in some critical industries including cement and fertilizer.
Earlier, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in the company of the President/CEO, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, among other dignitaries received President Buhari.
Five African presidents attended the inauguration of the Dangote Refinery alongside President Buhari.
The dignitaries are President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, President Gnassingbé Eyadéma of Togo, President Mohamed Bazoum of Niger Republic, President Mahamat Déby of Chad, and President Macky Sall of Senegal.
The Dangote Group had in a statement on Saturday said the refinery will be churning out Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), diesel (AGO), aviation jet fuel, and Dual-Purpose Kerosene (DPK), among other refined products.
The CEO of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, Sanjay Gupta, said that “everything in this plant by way of size is the first. It is the largest single-train refinery in the world”.
