Dental technicians meet in Gombe to discuss public need

The Association of Dental Technologists of Nigeria has organized a two-day scientific conference in Gombe to reflect on the dental need of the people.

Speaking at the flag-off of the conference, the national president of the association Comrade, Raji Kassem stated that the conference was exclusively organized by the northern forum to ensure teamwork for effective oral health care in Nigeria.

While urging his members to reflect more on the urgent need for teamwork in dental practice the president said: “In dentistry, teamwork is key to quality service delivery and the teamwork comprises of the dental surgeon, technologist, therapist and nurses, each one is providing a specific role to achieve the desired goal of delivery”.

Declaring the conference open the Gombe state commissioner of health, Dr. Ahmed Gana commended that association for picking Gombe as the venue for the conference, stating that the state government is committed to providing comprehensive health care including oral health.

Dr. Gana who was represented by the Director Diagnostic in the Ministry Mr. Ibrahim Hassan explained that the state government had sponsored the dental technologists in Gombe during their studies in school and that they were also offered employment in various health facilities across the state.

The Commissioner charged participants to always update their knowledge saying science is dynamic and also tasked them to consider every health work including the sanitary workers unique and essential so as to work together in offering good services to the patients.

On his part, the chairman of the northern forum of the dental technicians, Mr. Danjuma Amishe disclosed that the northern forum of the association was formed to bring all licensed dental technologists together to pursue the common interest of uplifting the dental technology practice in Nigeria and beyond.

He called on governments both at the federal and state level to assist and enhance the development of dental technology as a profession within the health care system.
