Kenya: President’s daughter defends the existence of office of first daughter
Following criticism from the nation of east Africa, Charlene Ruto, the daughter of Kenyan President William Ruto, has defended her “Office of the First Daughter.”
According to a report in the Kenyan online publication Tuko, Charlene claimed on Tuesday that she managed her team as the first daughter at a gathering where she also introduced other team members.
“Before again I continue I wanted to introduce quickly my team from Kenya,” Charlene said.

She proceeded to present Mike Sagana, whom she described as her main advisor and a politician.
“And this is Jermain Momanyi, he is the head of Trade and Investment at the Office of the First Daughter,” she added.

Her name became trending on Twitter as a result of the social media outcry that the development generated.
In response to criticism from the public, she released a statement on Wednesday claiming that the “Office of the First Daughter” is a private organization.
She emphasized that it was unconstitutional and gave Kenyans assurances that taxpayer funds were not being used to pay for it.
“The Office of the First Daughter is a private entity. It is neither a constitutional office nor is it being funded by Kenyan taxpayers. The office runs to purely facilitate the activities of and any programs by Ms Charlene Ruto,” the statement partly read.
She stated that as part of its goals, which include supporting youth-based agendas and climate change activism, the office has been involving many stakeholders.
“The Office of the First Daughter has at all times acted in good faith to ensure that the Kenyan Youth have a voice and get access to opportunities to enable sustainable livelihoods,” Charlene added.
