Labour Party Governorship Candidate Dumps Peter Obi, Supports Atiku, Nigerians React
The former gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in the July 16, 2022, election in Osun State, Yusuf Lasun, has dumped Peter Obi drums support for Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
Announcing his defection on Wednesday, Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the party’s presidential campaign rally in Osogbo, said Lasun is welcomed to the PDP.
Lasun, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, was also officially welcomed to the PDP by the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu and other party chieftains.
The former lawmaker, previously a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had dumped the party in March, ahead of the Osun governorship election.
His exit from the APC came after he lost the party’s governorship ticket to the then incumbent Governor of Osun, Gboyega Oyetola, at a primary election in February.
Lasun subsequently joined Labour Party and contested in the July 16, 2022, governorship election but lost to PDP’s Ademola Adeleke.

Meanwhile, his defection has continued to generate heated reactions on social media.
Social media users on Twitter described the move as a boost for the PDP, while others said the move would not in any way affect Peter Obi’s chances in the coming election.
Premier @SodiqTade, tweeted: “Labour Party Gubernatorial Candidate in Osun State and Peter Obi right hand man in South West, Rt. Hon. Lasun Yusuf has just joined the winning team in Osun State today.”
Dr Charles Odogwu, @DrCharlesOdogwu, said: “The same “Lasun Yusuf” PDP boys mocked for getting only 2000 votes despite dragging Peter Obi into his show of shame is who they are celebrating today.
JJ Omojuwa wrote “The gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in the just concluded Osun elections – former good Nigerian and an embodiment of the new Nigeria whilst an LP member – Hon. Yusuf Lasun has now joined the PDP. He left with the LP’s massive 2000+ Osun votes from the election.”
